We are frequently asked about the hardware and operating system required to run DBC
software programs. In general, all software performs better and faster on the fastest
available processor with more system RAM. This also applies to DBC programs. These recommendations
apply to the most recent version of DBC running the most common solution types.

Notes
Operating System
Windows NT, 2000, XP
DBC applications require a 32-bit version of Windows. 32 Bit version of Windows applies to
Windows 95 or later. We no longer test Windows 95, 98, or ME.
Processor (CPU) and CPU clock speed
Intel Pentium or AMD chips; 400MHz+;
DBC was designed to work on PC's which use Intel (or Intel compatible) CPU's. DBC also
runs on AMD CPU's.
DBC was not designed to run on Apple computers or Unix platforms. Some users run DBC
on these systems using a Windows emulator, but this is not supported by DBC.
System memory (RAM)
256MB of RAM
DBC programs generally use between 16MB and 32MB of RAM, but it can increase for large
complex calculations. The more RAM you have, the better DBC will perform, especially if the
programs has to run large, complicated calculations. If Windows runs out of system
RAM, it will use the hard drive for system memory ("virtual memory") which is very slow.
Free disk space for data storage
100MB
Most DBC data files are between 100KB and 10MB in size.
Video card resolution
800x600 with 256 colors
Higher resolution video will make it easier to read the screen.
Web Browser
---
A minimal web browser is necessary to communicate with DBC Support, download updates, and install auxiliary files
and utilities. Most versions of Windows come with an acceptable Web Browser built in to
the operating system.
Hardware Ports
1 USB
DBC programs require a security key that is installed in a
USB port. The key can either be single user (installed on PC
running the program) or a network.
The information below applies only to DBC Debt Manager :
Hardware and software to be provided by SS&C are the USB Port Security Block (SentinelTM SuperPro Hardware
Key), DBC AppServer, DBC Debt Manager, and Sybase SQL Anywhere Studio Version 11. Sybase SQL Anywhere Studio Version 11,
is provided by SS&C. All other hardware and operating system required to run the program are
to be provided by the client. For a client/server installation of DBC Debt Manager, we
recommend that the hardware key, DBC AppServer, and Sybase server portion be installed on a
server running Windows NT, 2000, XP and 2003 only. The DBC Debt Manager application may be
installed on any Windows operating system as shown above.
Hard Drive
An empty database file is 3 MB and the databases used by our current clients are between
3 MB and 80 MB. Most are between 3 MB and 6 MB.
The DBC Debt Manager application is approximately 25 MB.
Network Installation
Installation of the client-server portion of Sybase SQL Anywhere Version 11 is required for network installation.
Sybase SQL Anywhere Version 11 requires up to 300 MB. Adaptive Server Anywhere can run with as little as 4 Mb
of memory. If you use Java in the database, Adaptive Server Anywhere requires 8 Mb of memory. If you are using
the administration tools, Adaptive Server Anywhere requires at least 32 Mb of RAM. Your computer must have this
much memory in addition to the requirements for the operating system.
